Bold and Bright - New years outfit inspiration

Yesterday I spent quite a bit of time on pinterest and another large chunk of time simply being bored!! How horrible is that? This vacation just hit the point of "long enough" and we're not even half way through! I am SO ready to get back on life's normal schedule!! I'll have to wait two more weeks I guess. One week of that will be spent in the mountains so that should be fun, this coming week I have a few fun things planned to do with the girls so hopefully time will pass quickly. Monday night is New Years eve. Do you have plans? We are heading to a friends house for dinner with a few other couples. The night should be pretty mellow but I'm still planning on dazzling it up a bit with what I wear. It'll be a glam party in my head! lol. Need ideas on what to wear? Here you have it. Pink and red and all sorts of sparkle-- FAB!

A full on mix up of prints and colors with a dash of holiday lights and disco ball will work well too!

I hope you have a fabulous, sparkly, disco ball kind of New Year!! If you'd like to see what else I've been up to on can find me here.

sparkle and pop

New Years eve is just around the corner, beautiful ladies! Do you have plans? Going out? Staying in? We are still up in the air with plans due mostly to not being able to find a babysitter....damn teens with no baggage want to do something fun instead of staying in with my kids??!! Whaaaaat? So I guess we will see what our NYE end up looking like. Fortunately I'm pretty flexible and have an outfit on the ready if we do fall into big plans....because you know, celebrating New York's New Year in CA at 9pm IS big plans thankyouverymuch!

Dying over this French Connection dress...and all of their party dresses actually. Any jumpsuit from BCBG Max Azria will also do just fine. Looking forward to 2013. I think it's going to be a big year for us.

Adding jewels to the everyday.

Thanks goodness the Saw it.  Pinned it.  Did it link up seems to be on vacation this week  because I confess!! I've been a bit lazy lately. Totally neglecting the blog. I'm sorry. What have I been doing you ask? Well, Christmas was spent hanging with the kids, going to the movies and out to dinner (I know!!! I didn't cook. Guilty pleasure!) I have been spending a bunch of time playing board games with the kids, laying on the couch with the Big B (one of my fave pass times) and perusing Pinterest for fun Decor inspo and things to do...but of course not actually doing them. I DO have big plans though! lol. Lately I have been loving everything jeweled. Do you die over this?

It's been freezing here and I had to break out my boring puffy jacket. It needs jewels. Bad. Tomorrow the girls and I are heading downtown to ice skate at Pershing Square and pick up a bunch of trim, fabric and baubles. I will most definitely be shopping for baubles for my jacket. This would be a very easy no sew project...if you would like a glue recommendation E6000 bonds everything...EVERYTHING....and it sticks through the wash as well.  Also loving jeweled headbands.

Source: via Simone on Pinterest

We are heading to the mountains for a few days and one of the main things I am going to do while there is learn my new camera lens. Totally want to take some pics of the girls in some fun headbands.

Again, easy glue projects...a little E6000, something sparkly and a few good velvet flowers and silk ribbon and we would be on our way. Would know. If I decided to actually motivate from in front of the fire! Which I will. Tomorrow. Promise! I'll do my best to check in here a little more as well.

I hope you are all having an enjoyable and relaxing holiday time...thanks for bearing with me in my laziness holiday hibernation! Cheers!!

In lieu of cookies.....

Do you make gifts for friends, neighbors or staff during the holidays each year? I like to send the Big B in with staff gifts at the holidays and this year wanted to do something handmade again (last year was wine, the year before that was this...) Not really knowing what I wanted to do I of course searched Pinterest for inspiration and came across this little bucket of deliciousnes ....for a mere $17 per canister --on sale.

I knew I could make it for much less. It's a genius mix of popcorn, pretzels and potato chips drizzled in chocolate...and tagged in Pinterest with "Crack in a can" Sounded perfect!  Sweet and salty is right up my alley and I knew it would be very easy to replicate. I found some large containers at the 99cent store and went on my way filling them up with my own version of this Christmas Crack.

Here is what you will need::
1 bag of pretzels...nothing chunky, the skinny ones!
2 boxes of caramel corn of your choice. I used crunch n' munch which they also have at the 99cent store. Good potato chips with the smaller ridges, I chose ruffles.
White chocolate chips and dark or milk chocolate chips.
Parchment paper
Baking sheets
something to package the finished product in.

Here is what I did....Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Fill  both sheets with a mixture of caramel corn, pretzels and chips. I used 1 1/2 boxes of caramel corn and scattered that between the two sheets, then filled in with the pretzels and finally added a handful of chips to each sheet. I broke up the chips a bit-- like in 2-3 pieces so they were not too big.

I chose to melt my chocolate in the microwave for convenience. I put about 1/4 of the bag of chocolate chips into a glass measuring cup and put it in the microwave for about a minute. The key to melting chocolate chips is to make sure you don't overcook them or they will go hard. When you take them out of the microwave they should still be pretty chunky. Once the majority of them are warm enough to partially melt, you will need to stir them until the rest melt. You can pop them back in the micro for another few seconds depending on how powerful your micro is but just make sure to melt them slowly or your have a nasty chunky mess on your hands. So now that you have your chocolate all melty, drizzle it over the mix on the baking sheets. We used a fork and simply wiggled it back and forth over the goods, reloading as we went.

Repeat this with the white chocolate and pop the baking sheet into the freezer for a few minutes.  Once the chocolate has set, pull the sheets out, flip everything over and repeat on the other side. We only did dark chocolate on the underside as the white chocolate didn't melt as well and was just much more of a pain-- and we were making 15 of these bad boys so I wanted to cut the time a bit. Once the underside was sufficiently coated, back into the freezer they go then into containers and out the door so I don't have to eat them! So there you have a delish and surprising mix of holiday goodness.  I love something that's pretty quick and easy and a little different. I kind of wish I had added some edible would have tied the gift into our Christmas card. I'll share that with you tomorrow.

I hope you are all having a fabulous Holiday season. We are spending Christmas at home this year for the first time in about 6 years and are not having any visitors either. Christmas with just the four of us has never happened in the history of the four of us. I'm really looking forward to it! What are your plans?

Friday's Fancies - Holiday Best

This weeks Friday's Fancies theme is holiday best! My current holiday best is a fab little skirt and anything cozy and flannel. I have been living in my plaid flannel shirts due to the crazy cold snap we are having here so I thought I would style one in with a fancy and still casual vibe that I love so much.

Holiday Best

Abercrombie & Fitch flannel shirt / Short mini skirt / Sorel shoes / Juicy Couture metal jewelry

I love love love this beaded skirt and I can totally see it paired with a simple white v-neck tee for the summer months. Love me a good versatile piece that works all year. Can we also talk for a minute about how I killed a million birds with one stone this morning snuggled under my faux fur blanket in front of the fire? Juicy is having an additional 50% off their sale items and they have some fabulous jewelry and accessories for INSANE prices. I paid the $27 for overnight shipping but if you break that down per person, it's about $5. I would much prefer to sit in front of the fire and have my options laid out for me than hustle around town fighting traffic and crowds. I do have one more thing to get for each of the girls but then that's it! I'm done! Yay! Are you ready for Christmas? I hope's upon us! Oh!! one more sale alert-- all the Neiman Marcus for Target goodies are 50% off in the shops! So many fabulous gifts there! Linking up with AV for Friday's Fancies this week.

Happy Stylish Friday!

Silence. Peace. Sequins.

Today is supposed to be a bloggers day of silence in support of Sandy Hook so it seems a bit off that it's the day I am popping back in here. I feel like I have been under a rock but today feels like the day I should get back to it...and since I'm really never one to be silent I have to tell you I have never been so personally effected by a tragedy. I can't turn on the news or the radio and am trying to really steer clear of social media as well. It's all And pretty much just sends me into tears. Fridays tragedy is senseless, sad, desperate and bewildering and leaves me for the most part speechless-- Which is a rarity. For some reason I just can't get my head wrapped around it. Do we need more God in the world? Do we need fewer guns? More awareness of mental illness? Police officers in every school? To arm principals? I don't know. I don't think there is an answer....maybe that's the worst part. Or maybe the answer is this-- there is good in this world and that is what we need to focus on. Remember those that were lost and everyone affected by this senseless act  by being kind, loving, giving. See the good. Spend some time celebrating each other. And stop to enjoy those little moments that make life magical.

Wishing the world peace, happiness and hope.

Pinned it. Did it. A DIY playdate!

I mentioned in yesterdays post that my doll of a friend Kim set up a little DIY morning for the two of us. She found the project, shopped for the supplies and all I had to do was show up! I know!!! I know, you want to steal her don't you? Too bad. She's mine. You'll have to find your own DIY friend! Can i just say that ladies, the finished project is SO BEYOND FABULOUS that I can't stop looking at it!! Are you dying to see what it is? It's gold, fish scaly, modern chic perfection in the form of a wreath!

  Fish Scale Wreath DIY

Gasp! I'm not usually a big wreath person but this is the un-wreath-wreath!, amazeballs (that one's for you Kim!) I'm obsessed with it! And it's made from about $8 worth of supplies. A foam wreath form and gold thumbtacks found at the Dollar Tree. We each used about 1800 thumbtacks. I think the original tutorial said to get 1600 but I would get more just to be sure. Time wise, it took a good few hours to make this baby but was worth every.single.minute.  The original pin can be found here and the tutorial here. One thing I have to say about the tutorial is that it really doesn't have much instruction except to layer the thumbtacks around the wreath. I would just like to note that no matter how hard you try your thumbtacks will start to go crooked so that the pins on the outside edge of the wreath end up being higher up than on the inside so we ended up just filling in that outside edge with another half row as we went along to try to keep it pretty straight and lined up.  In the end, it's so dazzling that it's close to impossible to see any flaws at all!

diy fish scale

Totally a project I have wanted to do for ever but would probably not have sat down to do by myself. I'm pretty sure I can say the same thing for Kim. I would like to encourage all of you to set up DIY dates with your friends. I'm thinking Kim and I are going to have to do this on a bi-weekly basis once January hits. What better way to make sure all your DIY projects actually happen AND to ensure you spend quality time with the friends who really count!?!
Hanging fish scale wreath

One more little note on this... I said I am not a big wreath reason for such -- I hate to have nail holes in the door! Any door! And I'm not a metal wreath hanger fan either...mostly because so many of them are just cheesy! Anyway, I have found a way to solve this little dilemma....I loop the wreath around a long piece of ribbon and then tack the ribbon to the top of the door frame. It looks gorgeous and spares you having a hole in your door when you take the wreath down.

Random Wednesday - Dueling Leopards & Cheers to Mama Bears

We will just chalk this up to the most random Wednesday post known to man... Partially due to the fact that my "waking up at 5AM ready to conquer the world" streak lasted 4 days. I don't function so well when I wake up THAT early! I can stay up half the night and sleep until 6:45 but can't function on 9 hours of sleep and waking up at 4:30 AM. Itsaproblem! I feel like I  have jet lag...or drank waaaayyyy too much last night. I am not in Europe adn had the most boring night last night so that just sucks!

Anyway, we had Avery's brithday party last weekend which was a blast. 4 girls, fun games, visa gift cards and a trip to the mall. Home for pizza, a holiday lights tour, hot cocoa, make-up, and staying up half the night. I started the day in leopard print jeans but got chocolate on them so changed into leopard pants. Always good to have a back up!

  Dueling leopard
One of my sweet friends dropped her daughter off for the party and told me she had a great project planned for us. Today she and I sat and chatted and did our best to bang out the most fabulous project that I pinned many moons ago. Have to say that I love a gal who makes me make time for a little DIY and just sitting and chatting. She's a rare breed. It's not often that I just stop the rat race and enjoy life while the kids are at school. Indulgence! Kinda' felt like a trophy wife! lol

More randomness.... Our Christmas cards are here. So happy with how they turned out...and I don't think there is anyone in the world that gets as crazy about holiday cards as I do. My goal for next year is to be able to take the pics myself. Is it sad that I already know what I want to do??? And I quite possibly will not change my mind the entire year! Cray cray..I know!

One more not so fun little tidbit..Mama bears claws were in full effect at the dance studio. I have ZERO patience for bullying and nastiness. Unfortunately other moms do not!  After an incident this week a mom told her daughter to apologize to Avery last night and when the girl saw i was standing by Avery she said she didn't want to...and her mom DIDN'T MAKE HER!! The fact that I kept my adult mature composure through that deserves a full on Champers bar! People are crazy!!

And that concludes this crazy rant! I'm so sure you'll tune in next week for more adult sanity! I swear I haven't been drinking!! Think I might just be delirious from waking up too early!  xoxoxo

Trickeries & Accessories

It's Saturday. I woke up at 5:30 AM ready to take on the world. Tonight Avery is having her birthday party, it's a sleepover. I'll be ready for bed come 9pm! The universe is playing tricks on me. Really!! Ever talk to a friend about certain things and then have them all start to fall in your lap in a round about sort of way?? That SO happened yesterday (all in one day) that I am actually laughing at the universe - except the jokes on me! lol. Anyway, thought I would style another clutch for you....because what the hell else is there to do at 5:30AM??

The clutch is TDF-- oxblood leather, vintage velvet and a vintage rhinestone bauble -- sooo one of a kind, ready to ship AND seriously affordable!   Really surprised it hasn't sold yet! Perfectly matched for a Sunday football event or fancy formal dinner party. I love versatility!  I styled it for the Sunday date. A slouchy, ultra soft, super cozy Junk Food sweatshirt  and Current Elliot Jeans.  Both of these items are must have's in my book! Junk Food has the softest fabrics I have ever touched...and I'm a fabric snob...believe me, you need one of these! How do you add style to an everyday outfit like a sweatshirt and jeans?? Accessories of course! A fancy clutch, statement necklace and chic pair of booties will trick your wardrobe favorites and staples into thinking they are fancy!

Pretty in Plaid

This week's Friday's fancies theme is Pretty in Plaid. Are you a fan of plaids? There are so many different options when it comes to this classic pattern. Shirts, sweaters, skirts, pants, shoes, bags-- You name it, you can pretty much find it in a plaid of some sort! Lately I have been a fan of the plaid flannel shirt. As the weather dips cooler here in SoCal I tend to gravitate toward cozier clothing....not in the sense of something just having long sleeves but in the sense of the fabric being warmer, softer and more comforting. I will say that the plaid shirt can go wrong pretty quickly so in an effort to look a little less like the days of Kurt Cobain, Daisy Duke or The Beverly Hillbillies, the key is to add a little sparkle in the form of fancier accessories.

mad for plaid

Envelope clutches from my shop work well. A schosh over-sized and all accented with a big sparkly vintage brooch, they for sure add a dash of shine to an everyday flannel shirt. I could see either of these outfits paired with dark skinny jeans or leggings. Another option if these are still a dash on the too casual side, add a pointy toe flat instead of the boots. Perfection for the casual, daily routines of the holiday season like running errands, holiday shopping and coffee with friends...oh and don't forget your mama sippy cup! Def buying  these vino2go wine sippy cups for my besties this Christmas.

Pinned it. Did it. & a giveaway

Remember that post on those fabulous paper stars....found on Pinterst...and the claim to do them? Didn't work out so well! We got through two of the 10 layers and were bored out of our skulls so moved on! lol. Twisting paper around a pencil is not as glamorous as it seems when you actually have to sit still to do it! lol. I have been so side tracked this week....just feel sort of unorganized -- I HATE that! I think it is because I normally get all my Christmas decorating done in one day-- usually a Sunday-- but this time around I didn't. It has taken me days of a little here and a little there to get it done...and I have less decor than I usually do!! Don't know what's up with that!! Again....a little out of sorts this week ;) So one project bored me right onto another one.....or two! Both are VERY quick....perfect for the person with creative ADHD like myself! Found this little beauty on Pinterest and knew that my boring white deer bust must be glittered!

Source: via Simone on Pinterest

Super simple and easy.....foam brush, deer bust and glitter. Slather on the glue with a foam brush, shake the glitter - quick, easy upgrade!

glitter horns2

My second quick and easy update came when I noticed my front door set up needed a little height. I remember seeing this on Pinterest a while back and so set out on our hill to the wood pile. I knew I wanted something thicker and textured and after almost killing myself on our giant pile of branches I emerged with the two most perfect large branches, both the perfect height and with just the right amount of texture. Now, I'm going to let you in on a little secret - and this will save you lots of disappointment - not every metallic spray paint is the same. Don't be fooled by that shiny top!! Most metallic spray paint will not deliver that sort of shine. Except one!! One fabulously perfect metallic spray paint.... Krylon Premium. Found here. I used Silver Foil.

branch collage

I actually could have coated the branches one more time for serious shine...but I'm impatient so that didn't happen! Still, I love the outcome!  What projects have you been up to? Are you the impatient type like me?

One more thing to share.....because it's a giveaway!!  And everyone loves a good giveaway!! I'm participating in a giveaway over at Forty Toes Photography. Jenn is a dear, she is a fabulous photographer and one of the most giving ladies I know.  I love her and would do anything for that gal! Up for grabs is a $50 gift certificate to my shop along with a 15% off promo code. So head on over there, enter and check it out! Then swing by the shop and buy up all those clutches at a discount!

shoes and bags

A couple of my faves....along with new boots....which happen to be on SERIOUS sale! $40 from $109! Thanks always my fave place to shop!!

Weekend wrap-up

Happy Monday lovelies! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Ours seemed to zoom by for some reason....maybe because I slept until 9:30 yesterday?? I had a major bout of insomnia on Saturday night and couldn't fall asleep to save my life.....last time I looked at the clock it was 3:30AM. Hate that!! But so thankful I was able to sleep in yesterday and I actually woke up feeling totally energized...which was nice. I FINALLY got my gallery wall put back up. I switched a bunch of things around and ordered some new prints and this wall has been bare since....errr...spring break last April! Sad....inexcusable...I know! It looks like a whole new room now. LOVE it! Here's a little sneak peek for you.

We also started in on our holiday decor. I ended up going with a real tree...but only because I am waiting for Dec 26th sales to purchase something white and sparkly and something copper and shiny! Next year will be our year for tinsel trees. For now I'm going to settle with using tinsel as an accent :) Along with loads of sequins and glitter...of course.

I am restocking the shop today with just a few fun holiday clutches as well as the BEST stocking stuffers/hostess gift/ teachers gift/ staff gift  known to man... and if you have an issue with losing your keys, you absolutely need one of these! I am currently sporting a sequin one and can always fin my keys in my bag and on any surface in the house!

Chic key chains with little sparkly vintage baubles. They are $22 each including shipping and the price goes down the more you buy.
