Color block fall decor

Do you decorate for fall? I'm not much of a seasonal decor person. I tend to have Christmas decor and then "the rest of the year." Last year, the girls gave me a bit of a hard time about not having any Halloween decor so I upped my game a little bit with a few sparkly skulls and a spider or two . This year I am going to try it again and found some inspiration in color blocking. Picking up a few pumpkins and painting them in bright colors along with a dash of gold will do the trick this year.

Original idea found here.  Chatelaine.com recommends getting sample size paints from the hardware store. Fab idea! Pick your favorite fall outfit of piece of clothing and pull color inspiration from that! Happy fall!

Running shoes not allowed...

Happy Stylish Friday, my lovelies! What are your plans for the weekend? The girls have fall break next week and we are heading up to my parents for a few days this weekend but not before the big elementary school student council elections. Olivia is running for school president so this mama is on edge today. Olivia will be speaking in front of half of the school. She has absolutely no problem standing up in front of 300 kids to speak. It blows my mind! Please send some positive vibes her way! She is running against 3 other girls, one of them being a very close friend of hers. No boys for prez, interesting, right?? Girls rule the world!

This morning I was dropping the girls off at school and was then heading over to meet a friend for a run. I had gym clothes on. Olivia asked if I was going to come watch her speech and then said "you are going to change, right?" I told her I wasn't planning on it as time was going to be crunched. Ha! That didn't go over very well. Apparently she and her friends hold me to the highest standards and I must never be seen in gym clothes. Maybe I should change the name of my blog to running in heels! lol. Soooooo what's a mama to do?
I love a good romper, a floral rug and an animal print slipper chair! #patternallover

Run fast, get ready even faster and head over to school looking like I had not been about to die on the side of the road a half hour earlier! Sporting a fun printed silk romper and a pair of booties...because even though it is going to be in the 90's today, I refuse to accept summer any longer! So, the romper will keep me cool and the booties will help me feel like it really is fall.

dress versatility

I love a versatile piece that can work in any season and just like my romper today, this BCBG Max Azria dress works it. It's on SALE SALE {55% off!!} at 6pm.com. {yes, yes I do stalk 6pm on a daily basis. You should too!} Look at how well this dress can transition from day to night, work to weekend, aaannnd it's an animal print. Hello!  Happy Stylish Friday.

Fall chill

The mornings and nights have finally turned chilly here which has sent me reeling in the direction of fall. I'm thinking home decor, faux fur and crock pot meals. Who isn't thinking about staying in this bed all morning long snuggled under that Moroccan wedding blanket.

Lounge with a latte on this bench.

Or hit the road in some sleek sweats and this cozy number??

You really should swing by 6pm.com if you are loving this jacket as much as I am....it's on SALE SALE! For realsies, you can't afford not to buy it! Happy Thursday, fall is just one last heat wave away!

High and low

Happy What I wore Wednesday! The kids had no school today and Avery got braces this morning on top of the fact that Wednesday is a heavy dance day for us. So I spent the majority of the day running around with the girls, between the ortho and dance class and a quick trip to Trade Joe's I was thankful I had decided on flats today.

Bright orange #ootd with #boyfriend #jeans and metallic sandals

I did sneak in about an hour in the studio, which was mostly spent cleaning up since my overlock machine has decided it now needs a vacation and a little pampering...ugh. How fun is this little peek into a pile of fabrics? Love the colors and prints!

How fun does all of that look???

In the outfit mix today was a bright orange sleeveless tie neck shirt from Target that I think might be my new fave! I paired it with a pair of boyfriend jeans, a chain link bracelet and gold sandals. Tonight I am heading out to sushi with friends and cannot wait to shift into heels mode! I'll be wearing my new Sam Edelman booties and the Renegade set from Stella and Dot {another one of my new faves!

Button down shirt / 7 For All Mankind , $310 / Enzo Angiolini gold shoes / Chanel vintage jewelry, $1,045 / Michael Kors silver jewelry / Stella & Dot / Stella & Dot chain necklace / Sam Edelman

This shirt is going to be a fave, I can already tell. I can see it working all the way thru the holidays. I think it would look incredible paired with fuchsia pants and some extra sparkly jewelry. It was under $30. I would highly suggest adding it to your wardrobe. Love a versatile piece!!

Sunrise and gratitude

We're baaaaaack! Home from a 10 day weekend. It was fabulous! We had a quick stay with friends, a quick trip to South Beach and then a long stay in Key West and Hawks Kay.

#southbeach

Days were spent riding bikes around the island, walking on the beach, swimming in the ocean and of course the pool. Kayaking, snorkeling, sailing. You name it! We did it.  You only live once was our moto last week!

Untitled

The kids even got to swim with dolphins while we were at Hawk's Kay. Both of them agreed it was something they will never forget. There were so many times during our vacation that little moments of gratitude would creep upon me. The girls standing at the front of the catamaran sailing back from a great trip, Brian and the girls swimming off of the hotel pier and more than anything as we were driving to the airport early yesterday morning as the sun was coming up. It was THE most magical sunrise.

#nofilter #sunrise #keywest

Straight out of a watercolor, it honestly looked surreal. The ocean was glass and reflected the sunrise so everything just blurred into one gorgeous watercolored image, which this photo does not do justice! I should have had Brian pull over so I could take pics with my real camera....but it was early y'all! I'm so thankful that we are fortunate enough to be able to travel --  I feel so blesssed! Happy Monday! It's back to the grind! And the gym since I drank and ate everything.in.sight.

Football Fancy

Today is the official last day of summer, is it not? I do believe it is. (But I'm still in Key West and at 5 o'clock today I had to ask the kids what day it was so please don't hold me to that.) It's close...or has recently passed, I promise. So I ask, what does fall mean to you? In my world it has always meant, among other things, the start of football season-- which I love. I don't have a favorite team and don't pay much attention to the TV on game day but we often get together with friends on any given Sunday... it's football, our favorite people, good food, good drinks and laughing until it hurts. Live it up! This year I think we're going to go fancy....imagine how excited the guys will be about this!

Game Day

J.Crew j crew / Brunello Cucinelli mini skirt / Valentino suede booties, $945 / Marni / Marc by Marc Jacobs marc jacobs jewelry / Boys' long-sleeve #78 football tee

In my ideal world - or maybe it is my dream world-- a super fancy skirt set off by a rugged jersey and suede booties!  In my real world, I'll be rocking that Crew Cuts jersey (yes, its for kids and by the way is on serious sale right now) possibly coated denim and some pointy toe shoes...aaannnnd some seriously fancy clutches are coming to the shop. Sequins? Feathers? You'll have to wait and see. Shouldn't we all live it up on Football day? Life is about making things beautiful, exciting and fun.

Island time

Well, hello there. I must say I had every intention ofbeing on vacation and sitting at the pool computer in lap, blogging away this week. I was so excited to get ahead of the game for once, you know....have blog posts stacked up and ready to go. And then...then we arrive in Key West where the only priority is...well, there really is no priority..."Island time" is the only measure around here!  Tonight, for the first time in 5 days I actually put on a pair of shoes that were something other than a flat sandal...and I fully had to convince myself to do so! Time spent with family sitting by the pool, kayaking, snorkeling, riding bikes, that is what has taken priority so far.... Key West is fabulous! I am clearly still in a summer kind of mode...which proves to be a bit difficult when the blogging world is in full fall swing. Fact of the matter is, despite a trip to Key West, I know I am not the only one who is in the position. So many of us live in warm weather states where fall really isn't fall. We are stuck in the middle, dreaming of layering and riding boots but facing 90 degrees when we open the door.   So what is a girl to do? Sport a Rachel Roy caftan and statement cuff that will work for all seasons.

Transition

Rachel Rachel Roy rachel roy dress / Amrita Singh / Feather jewelry / Yellow gold jewelry / Bracelet
I packed heavy for Key West and have skipped over other outfits to wear this caftan -- twice. I love it!! Aaannd it's on maj sale here!  I'm super happy that it will also work in the fall...or at least when the fall weather finally arrives. Maybe with a chunky belt and a pair of boots and any of those cuffs. Mix in a little burgundy. Fall perfection!

Dip-dye dress

Spending so much time in the studio this week has re-energized my fashion DIY side. I have a dress I bought a while back that I love (or I guess I love the idea of.) I have just never worn it because it is very see through, it is a knit maxi so wearing a slip underneath shows lots of seams and such and pretty much doesn't look great. So it has hung there...I don't know why I didn't return it, but I didn't. Sooooo now I feel like I had better do something with it -- enter the dip dye idea.
DIY dip dye

Ombre still has its place in fashion  so I am going to attempt to ombre the dress. Today. While packing. I'm on it!! I found a tutorial over at a pair and a spare that gave me a little insight into technique. I'll take pics as I go and will hopefully have a successful go at it! Hopefully!  I'll be posting pics on my instagram feed of me in the dress sometime next week (if it ends up presentable!) . Wish me luck!

Have you done any fashion DIY? Upcycles, etc?? I'd love to hear about them!

Re-routed

Well, thank goodness someone was paying attention! My big flea marketing plans were foiled this weekend when my girlfriend figured out that the Long Beach Flea Market is actually this coming weekend. How fun would that have been? Get up extra early on a Sunday morning, drive an hour only to be greeted by an empty parking lot....or worse. A car show. It has happened before my friends. Yes it has. We decided instead to go fabric shopping, out to lunch and then shoe shopping....clearly just as good. Here's a little stack of goodness I picked up.

fabric stack

The colors didn't photo that well...everything is rich and lush and I have some fabulous pops of color and a few florals to add into the mix of stripes, dots and brocades. Brocades are in for fall. They are all over. As are jewel tones and anything mixed print. You can imagine how happy I am about that! I have been perusing many of the runway shows online for inspiration as well as a ton of mags. Would you believe that I have twice as many tear sheets from Teen Vogue than any other mag? Interesting right?? I think maybe they just take more risks. Love that! I am trying my darnedest to get back into the studio and stay there and focus only on clutches. It is where I should be. I have a ton to do and we are heading to Key West next week. For a full week. Of sitting.on.the.beach. White sand, blue water and cocktails. I am one lucky gal!  It's our first time there. Have you been? Any favorite spots I need to know about?

Who knew?

Who knew a backpack could actually be so chic?? I have to say the backpack purse had it's time.....a.long.time.ago. It should not be revisited but I do still see a need for a backpack now and again.

Flea marketing trips are one of those times. And this one would fit the bill perfectly....and it's on sale!!  I am heading to Long Beach tomorrow with a friend and fellow treasure hunter. A big backpack is just what I need! I think I'll be searching for vintage scarves as well. How gorgeous would a backpack like this be if it were made from vintage silk scarves-- Geometric vintage scarves from the 70's. Hello gorgeous!
What are your plans for the weekend? What kind of bag will you be carrying?

Going Brocade

All this brocade is making me crazy! Y'all know how I love a good fabric! Brocade is ALL OVER for fall. I'm really excited to pick up (or make-- pencil skirts are SO easy!) a few pieces for myself. I have been back in the studio a bit this week looking at fall and winter fabrics and doing a little planning. Brocade and laces are IN as is mixing patterns-- I am sure you know how happy I am about that! Right up my alley!! This weeks Style File is all about Brocade and mixing it up.
Brocade and black

Feminine brocade with a more masculine shirt and a h.o.t pair of heels. I couldn't resist those Sam Edelman heels with the gold detail in the back. Aren't they TDF?? Loves! I'll be eagerly awaiting their arrival next week. What are the fall fashion trends you are loving right now? Any favorite colors? I'd love to hear all about them!

Sweets

Photos like this make me drool. I guess it's not really the photo, it's more the yards and yards and yards of voile surrounding what's her name the gorgeous Penelope.
