Own it...or not?

"If you own it, no one will even question your style." I tell my girls this all the time! All.The.Time. If you like it and you wear it with confidence {and they know you read Teen Vogue. lol} you'll be just fine. This is my motto when dressing as well {It's also my motto with decorating and making bags.} but I have found something that I reeeeeally want to own and just am not sure if I can. It's the headscarf.

What do you think? I really love the look and I sure think it beats a baseball cap, but I do think it has it's limits - the scarf would definately have to be simple. Maybe a geometric in soft colors? Or a classic Chanel chain link.

Would you wear a head scarf?  Help me on this one..... thanks dolls!

ps-- no idea why all the scarves pulled from my polyvore have the spelling "scarve" Is that Euro? Anyway, I can't change it....just wanted to let you know I really do know how to spell. :)

Art. Deco.

Is your decorating a never ending project?? Mine seems to be! I'm still working on our living room decor. My green drapes are finally up. I.heart.them--for.realseis. I now need to get everything back up on the walls (yes, from when I painted over spring break...eek) This past week I started thinking about my gallery wall and which pieces I will re-use and what is missing. I have a few vintage oils that need "manning up" a bit as I am a little nervous that I'm going a little too glam for Brian. I'd like something black and white and graphic. I'm hoping I can find something already done but if not, I am open to doing a piece myself. Glitter Guide featured Art Deco inspired dresses yesterday and it got me thinking --their graphic nature really spoke to me!

Dress number 4 in the form of a canvas is EXACTLY what I am looking for and I think it would be pretty easy to create with some black and gold paint.

I have also been scouring etsy for a few pieces. I don't want anything big box. Love this...

Source: etsy.com via Simone on Pinterest

think I might need to add it to the mix. Do you have any suggestions on how I can add a little masculinity to our space or any pieces or art that you absolutly love? I'd love to hear about them!

Well rounded weekend.

How was your weekend gorgeous? I had a very well rounded weekend. Friday night I did a little shopping (was supposed to be shopping for frames but spent more time looking for shoes at marshalls than frames at Aaron Brothers. I then joined a group of lovely ladies for a few rounds of Bunko - had a fabulous time. Sported some cobalt jeans (love those!)

Saturday morning was spent getting ready for the evening wedding we were attending in Santa Barbara. I spent the morning at Sephora - SO MUCH FUN! The wedding was fabulous. The bride and groom were the cutest couple I have ever met! Just adorable!! The wedding was held at The Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet club. Faaaaaabulous! The club house was incredible inside. Every inch of the walls were lined with 8x10 photos of tournament winners. Brian and I had a great time looking at all the old photos. I really enjoyed looking at the fashions over the decades. There was also the most incredible trophy case with gorgeous old trophies. So regal! Brian and I are planning on going back there to watch a match sometime soon.

We stayed overnight at the Fess Parker in Santa Barbara - which is always stellar -- We were both up pretty early for some reason....kind of annoying when we didnt have the kids with us and could have slept in but hey! Not complaining! This gave us more time to spend at the breakfast buffet! What did I eat you ask?? Ohhhh Bread pudding and Bacon of course. Yep! That's it!I spotted that big vat of bread pudding and could not help myself. It was faaaabulous! I really wish I would have brought my phone to breakfast so I could have taken a pic but oh well. Sometimes it's good to not be so instacrazy!! Kind of mad at myself for not taking pics of my wedding outfit either! Did manage to snap one of my floral print shoes on the way to the ceremony but didn't want to seem like a cazy gal snapping pics of herself around Brian's work colleagues!  I wore a BCBG black cocktail dress with a deep V front and deep V back and received loads of compliments. I felt amazing in the dress. I"ll be wearing it again for sure - maybe this time with sandals?? I don't know. Date night??  I always feel fantastic when I dress up so I think I'm going to start doing it more. Hmmmm....I think I see a blog post in there somewhere! How to dress down dress-up??  I"m pretty good at dressing up dressing-down..remember the sweatshorts??

Weekend shoes

We made it back home by mid day today and pretty much dropped everything and ran to the club to workout...that's what happens when the reality of bread pudding and bacon set in! Lol. This afternoon...I napped. And this evening was spent hanging in the backyard, playing with the kids and the dogs, roasting marshmallows and swimming. How was your weekend? What are you looking forward to this week? Linking up with some fun gals! Swing on by to find fabulous new blogs!
Hope ya'll had a fantastic weekend! What did you do. Anything exciting?

Stop and smell the roses

The plan was as usual - Friday Style File. I had a post planned focusing on hair, you know the open back dress, it warrants a chic ponytail. But then I awoke to yet another random, senseless act of violence. Tragedy. In a town where some of our family lives. Thank God they are all ok. So my focus obviously turned and when the universe sends you in a certain direction, you must go with it right? I was struck by Obama's speech today:

"Life is fragile. Our time here is limited and it is preciuos. What matters at the end of the day is not the small things, it's not the trivial things that ultimately consume our daily lives, it is how we choose to treat one another and how we love one another, it's what we do on a daily basis to give our lives meaning and purpose. That is what matters. At the end of the day, what we will remember is those we love and what we did for others. That's why we're here."

I think it is a good time to stop, look around and count my blessings. Five things I am thankful for::
1. A healthy family.
2. Good friends. Trips to the beach with them and coffee breaks at the drop of a hat.
3. Back to school shopping.
I was struck last night while we were shopping with the girls-- it was the first time Brian came with us shopping for school supplies and he was a little baffled by the process which got me thinking. It's a tradition for the girls and I often allow them to indulge in more than just the items that they need. This time I was stopped in my tracks and actually choked up a little thinking that there are children all over this country, in our town, in your town that don't shop for school supplies because they can't, the reasons are many.
4. My busy schedule. What if I didn't have these things in my life to keep me busy? The kids, a hubby, friends, the dogs, the house, entertaining, chores, fabric, bags, blogging, fashion. I am thankful for all of it.
5. Sunsets.
The girls and I stopped to take in the most amazing sunset this week. A sunset and a rainbow at the same time are quite a sight. It was stunning and we talked about how incredible natures creations are.

Party wear

We have another wedding to go to this weekend. We never have weddings so two in a row is a REAL treat! I think everyone should attend at least one a year. It makes you think back to your own wedding vows and what exactly it is you promised to do...mostly to put one another first-- Seek peace, love, cherish, respect. All good things to focus on in marriage. And all things that can fall a bit to the wayside in the chaos that we call life. So it's nice to sit and listen to someone speak about what it takes to make a good marriage. Sort of re-centers me. Anyway, enough with that emo mumbo-jumbo and on to more important things! What's to wear to the wedding?? Well I am going to be sporting a BCBG LBD cut just as low in the front as in the back...and since I'm attending as the bosses wife, I'll be Hollywood taping it in place! :) And now to accessorize -- I went on the shoe hunt in my closet today and just couldn't find anything I fell in love with ... I do have one floral print pointy toe shoe that will work but I didn't absolutely love it....and I DO have to absolutely love it, yes I do! I'm hoping to find a little time tomorrow to run out and take a look around for something better. I should have planned ahead and shopped Zappos. I was searching the internet this morning and found this little piece of Heaven!

Ohhh I die over these shoes. That silk bow at the back speaks to me!! I have issues with things like this....the train of a wedding dress, pretty much anything drapey in BCBGMaxAzria...fabric moves me!! Just like these shoes. They are $490 and they are SOLD OUT! So they will not be gracing my feet this weekend....even if they weren't sold out, I wouldn't be working shoes that cost so much.  Buuuuuut I'm thinking maybe I could embellish a pair of nude heels with bow and get a similar effect. Stay tuned to my instagram feed over the weekend to see what I end up wearing.  Love is in the air!!
Happy inspired Thursday!

Hello Monday

Hi Gorgeous! How was your weekend? We had a great weekend. Last night Brian and I went to a friends wedding. It was GORGEOUS! And worthy of it's own blog post so stay tuned for that later in the week. I wore a fun pleat detail floral dress paired with a vintage metal mesh bag (the bag is one of my all time fave b-day gifts from a friend) Hook up with me on instagram @simonehowell or here to see a pic of the outfit.

Friday night the girls set up camp and a movie theater in the backyard....they do this often and love it, although only once have they actually slept in the tent. I would actually prefer that they sleep in the house so totally not complaining about this! We all spent quite a bit of time making things. Avery is making herself a wedding dress ;) There are currently little "ditties of creativity" spread through out the living room and also all over the studio floor (beach bags will be available on my facebook page today and in the shop tomorrow. YAY)

july 2012

I guess a little mess is a sign of a life well lived, right?? I need to keep telling myself that! I feel like I don't stop to take life in often enough. We have an amazing, incredible life and I am so thankful for that. I need to remember that more often. I'm also thankful for summer vacation, it's 10:54 and I'm still not dressed. You only live once, right?? Enjoy it!

I'll get there, just enjoying my morning. Linking it up to encourage all of you to take a little time to explore other blogs. There is so many fantastic ladies out there!

Sparkle on!

Do you love fancy? I.love.fancy Heels are a must at least 5 days a week for me. They just make me feel good.....so does anything sparkly. {Maybe this is why I'm so obsessed with jewelry) I think we should all have a little sparkle somewhere....everyday. A few weeks ago one of the girls friends was in my car and we were talking about heels. She said "my mom doesn't wear heels because she says she's too busy for heels. She is either at the gym or running us around." My thoughts on that...to each his own-- But I know a little sparkle is important to me and the right heels can be perfect for running kids around town. Plus, you don't always need to sport a heel, gold sandals are an option as well :)

beach sparkle

Even when going to the beach, I would have zero issue with a little sequin jacket with a casual white tank and pair of jean shorts...and a perfely embellished stripe beach tote...with sequin trim of course! I'm working on beach totes as you read this. They will be limited in number and all will add a dash of sparkle to your sandals....and sequin jacket....too much for the beach? Never!!

I'm linking up at Fashion Friday as well as joining in the blog hop with Carly. Really excited about discovering a few new blogs! Swing on by!

Happy Stylish Friday!

baubles, lipgloss & crayons

I know ya'll are familiar with my bauble obsession. I could walk out of the house with no make-up on (other than concealer...which I apply upon getting out of bed every morning. lol) and as long as I have baubles on, I'm good. But no jewelry and I'll be turning myself around and loading up. So when Shanna from Because Shanna Said So set up a bauble swap, I was on board! This was my first blog swap so I was a little intimidated but when I was paired up with the gal from just around the corner (so to speak) I settled in. Carly from Lipgloss and Crayons is a gorgeous gal all around. First a teacher to inner city kids -- seriously. amazing. Teachers hold a special place in my heart....I honestly don't believe there is a more important or noble profession than teaching.  A wife to a musician -- hello Uncle Daddy. And a blogger of all things beauty, style and life - right up my alley! She is a fantastic writer and has the perfect mix of life, love and product on her blog. Oh and she's gorgeous...I know, right?? Fabulous all around....and the baubles she sent are nothing short of fabulous either!  Finding an unexpected little black box from Bauble Bar in the mailbox was the best surprise I've had in a long time. Inside.......NEON!!

My summer obsession! Carly, you nailed it! Thank you!! I'm wearing the colorful rhinestone pair to the beach today with my yellow neon shorts and a black and white striped bikini.  Rhinestones at the beach.....Too much?? No such thing!

If you want in on the Bauble Swap, it's open until July 15th so rush on over to Shanna and she'll set you up with someone fabulous because that's how she rolls!

The perfect summer shimmy

Seriously. Can't get enough of this song-- the perfect Fourth of July shimmy

It's country at it's finest! Littel Big Town is seriously amamze and who wouldn't want to don a fedora, bralet and high wasted shorts along with a white blazer to sing and lounge on the pontoon with all their friends clad in insanely fab heels?? Dancing around galvanized buckets o' champers. Sign me up!

Ok the buckets of champers were my idea but what evs' ....it is the only think missing from that video...should have styled it myself.

I've been joking (you know, the joking where I'm not really joking) with Brian about wanting to buy an old airstream or camper and totally make it over. How fabulous would that be? We'd go glamping at the beach everY weekend. Maybe when that's done I'll move on to a pontoon boat :)

My life in texts from the Dog.

Have you seen this site yet?? Texts from the Dog?? HILAR!!  I found it through Stephanie at Bourbon and Glitter. I totally related to this one...

although it's not the dog who loves tennis around here :) I sat on the couch last night reading these while he-who-loves-tennis was watching Wimbledon of course. He didn't think they were that funny....he found it more amusing that I would randomly crack up out loud while spending 20 minutes reading fake texts from the dog. They are funny! And are soooo my sense of humor. Must be the Brit in me!

This one is so relatable......

Our newfies have a love for the pool (and the sprinklers) and this one is a bit of a Houdini when it comes to opening a sliding glass door. If you're feeling like good laugh -- seriously, you have to go read some of these. So funny!

Weekend, wine and wearings

Did you have a fanstatic weekend? We sure did. I spent part of Saturday in the studio working on gifts for my soon to be arriving nephew and a few fun things for my nieces too.

And spent the afternoon doing things  like grocery shopping shopping for fruit to load up into the juicer and washing the car and even though these are not my favorite or usual things to do on the weekend, they were fun because Mr. H and I did them together. We were busy little bees because we knew we wanted to spend Sunday relaxing and enjoying our time taking in Solvang and wine tasting in Los Olivos. If you are in the SoCal area I would highly recommend hitting the Los Olivos area. It is GORGEOUS! Our first stop was Rideau Vineyards. O.M.Gosh! Soooo gorgeous!!

Brian and I both agreed that if we were ever to get married again - to each other of course-- we would get married here. It's pictured on the top right. So many roses that they actually scent the air when you are walking along the path. Their wines were fabulous. I was actually a bit surprised as they don't age their whites in oak barrels, they put them in Stainless barrels which I have never been a fan of as I love a heavier oaky white ...buuuutt... their whites were fabulous! Their reds were great too. Lot's of wonderful blends which I am always a huge fan of. The best part about this winery, though is that they have wine on tap! Oh yes! Wine on tap! And they bottle it in jugs called "Growlers"  Equivalent to 2.5 bottles of wine. Yes, we'll have a wine growler please!

Rideau vineyards

We tasted both the red and the white - both were blends- and ultimatly decided on the white as we're going to be giving it to my dad for part of his birthday gift. I'm a sucker for anything a little different so this was an easy buy for us!We also hit a few other wineries. Firestone has a great view and they have free concerts on Friday nights which we are going to try to come back for....but we'll see as it's a bit of a trek. On the way home we stopped for a few sparklers at one of the 6000 fireworks booths that are set up along the 126. Looking forward to July 4th. How about you??

Linking up with these fabulous gals for a little weekend roundup!

I pinned this a few weeks back.

I have thought about it every day since. I'm clearly obsessed with it so I thought I would share with you. It motivates me for some strange reason....might be all the fabric....don't know. Interesting the things that are unforgettable to us and impress upon us at times.

Sort of obsessed with these too... along with many other pairs of Sam Edelmans....
