What I wore...upcycled shorts

What I on Thursday. It's been one of those weeks so far. Allergies have me DRAGGING! Drapes for sure will not be done by the end of the week....which I cannot believe is basically ONE day away! I shouldn't be such a Negative Nellie, I really shouldn't! I do get a lot done but more always gets added to that darn list! On a positive note I just realized we have absolutely.nothing.planned this weekend! Yay! it has been so long since we have had a free weekend. Maybe green curtains ARE on the horizon after all! My naked walls are starting to get to me. lol. And I won't hang anything until those are up. I'm on it! There. Change in attitude.

Clearly I am on a green kick lately. Yesterday I took a little time to upcycle a pair of $5 sweat shorts from Target (inspired by this Friday Style File post) ....Yep, those are $5 sweat-shorts paired with a Tucker blouse and Sam Edelman gold linen heels. Giggle. Bracelets are vintage and from Foerver21. Necklace is Stella and Dot Panther...a go-to lately.  It's easy to mix in"affordable" pieces with pieces that are not as affordable and pull off the whole look rather easily: Style note No. 1: don't be afraid of cheap things.

Linking up with The Pleated Poppy What I wore Wednesday . Head that way and look around, I'm sure you'll stumble on a few new blogs that you love.

Happy What I Wore Wednesday Thursday!

Green with envy

What do you think about the color green for interiors? I am seeing it ALL OVER right now and am madly in lurrves with it! Full on green walls...

I die - I do- I die over this!!  I think I would only be able to get away with this one in a smaller room and our downstairs bathroom is already painted black so I think that's out. I'm sure Mr. H will be happy to hear THAT! That man put's up with a lot when it comes to my interior shenanigans!

Look at these kitchen cabinets! BOLD! A large set is needed to pull this one it!  Maybe I could somehow convert a coffee able to look something like this....hmmm.... idea rolling there! And I need a new coffee table. {I'm sure Mr. H would agree. lol}

For a more subtle approach...if you can call kelly green upholstered bed.

This is do-able...more than do-able!! My dad can whip up the frame and I'll upholster away. Mom, I know you are going to read this so please show this to dad ASAP. Thank you :) So glad the guys in my life support my habit!

Hope ya'll had a fantastic holiday weekend. I have a laundry list for this week....and just got a call from Miss A at school that it is a minimum day today, they'll be finished at noon. gah! Must run!

ps- I'll share my green curtains with you once they are up - hopefully by the end of this week! ;)

Magic.....slushy magic

I should know better than to send Mr. H to the store with either of the kids! They always come home with the things I say no to. I think I am going to ban them from the "As seen on TV' aisle starting now. First it was Eggies.. This evening, one little one and one big one went to the store to pick up few bananas and some strawberries and came home with the Slushy Magic! Most were excited. I was not. Couldn't believe anyone would spend 15 bucks on a few bags of salt water....until I found this.

Thank you cocktail Gods, and the Big B who has a hard time saying no to our children at the store.. It IS a holiday weekend. I WILL be making slushies of some sort...and I might even go return that unopened second box of Eggies for my own Slushie magic...God knows I won't see much action with the one Slushie Magic we have now due to the amount of kids we have here on any given weekend :) I'm not is good! Happy almost holiday weekend! Cheers to the slushie magic!

Upcycle Chic

Happy Friday my lovelies! We are running a bit around here this morning. Packing for a few days in Anaheim for a dance competition. Should be a fun two days with the girls, then home to entertain the end of the weekend. I spent some time downtown yesterday and went a little overboard with buying trim! Inspired by these Free People shorts, I was on the hunt and have decided a little upcycle is in order! I scored a few pairs of sweat shorts at Target for $5 and will be adding some chic to them in the form of ribbons down the sides.

Shorts Upcycyle

Who does love comfy chic?? Bright green shorts, gold and black trim, tassel earrings and a chic white silk shirt. perfect for entertaining. I'll share the products of my indulgence early next week.

I'm linking up with Blonde Episodes Fashion Friday. Head on over for summer fashion inspiration!

Happy Stylish Friday!

Fabulous nails!

What is your "usual" at the nail salon? Do you ahve a specific color that is your go to? Or are you an adventurer when it comes to nails? For a long time, I was stuck in a rut of dark toes, buffed fingers but I have been feeling more adventurous this spring in the nail realm. I am sure it is due to all the fabulous pics of mani pics on Pinterest. The french manicure is a favorite with the girls and I. Unfortunately for me, any nail polish doesn't last long, this is why I have always resorted to buffing my finger nails.... Nice and shiny and nothing to chip off. But all those pics are getting to me I tell you so I think I am going to have to start playing around with my own nails.

How about this brilliant idea to make french tips easy and quick? LOVE it! Last time I was at the salon, I got coral tips...lasted 3 days. Heading to the store today to pick up some office supplies for my nails. And this!! Gah! My gold obsession continues!

Happy Inspired Thursday!

It's in the accessories!

Today I stayed in my pj's until 1:30! Seriously!! I was working around here and was too side tracked to stop and get dressed...if you know me, you know this is unusual. I HEART getting dressed. Anyway, I did end up throwing it together to go help in Miss A's class this afternoon but opted for something very simple and easy. Jeans and a white tee. as I was rushing out the door I remembered the time I showed up in someone's class (I won't mention any names here) and that certain someone was horrified that I was looking less than stylish in my gym clothes. So I figured that I had better get it together on the fly. Fedora, Aviators and a quick bag change and I was good to go. Should have gobbed on the jewelry but like I said, I was already half way out the door

19 more days waking to a set alarm...but who's counting right? It's been in the 90's here and already feels like summer! School is almost out and many of you are probably in need of affordable teacher gifts. If you want something chic, original and affordable, tune into the Gardenhouse Facebook page this afternoon. I'll be listing some key fobs.

Dollar store candle DIY

What did we do before blog and the internet and so much accessible DIY inspiration? I guess there were just more magazines?? I am constantly awed by the projects I find out there. The HGTV site is one place I frequent for design ideas and inspiration.

Source: via Simone on Pinterest

I recently came across one of Emily Henderson's DIY's and HAD to share. A few dollar store candles, painters tape and some gold foil - Chic, cheap and easy{and metallic} My favorite!!   Emily Henderson is beyond...Love me a strong gal that owns it --  All of it-- her style, her life, her voice. LOVE that gal. IDOL.

Prosecco + Popsicle

I recently had to throw together a quick cocktail to bring to a friends house. Since I can be very last-minute-Lucy I had time for one trip to the store and that was time to make anything. Sometimes the best things come from being in a crunch.

image via Bliss Celebration Guide

I grabbed a box of the pure fruit popsicles in berry flavors and few bottles of prosecco and wa-la!! Crowd pleasing cocktails without any fuss!! If you get the smaller popsicles like I did, they look really wonderful in Champagne flutes...although that doesn't leave the most room for prosecco so maybe you could opt for a big red wine glass! Are you entertaining today? If so, give this one a whirl! So easy! Summer is upon us.....that makes mama happy!

ps- You should head over to Bliss Celebrations to see the images from this event...TDF!!  Chic and lovely!

The tins are from Target...sshhhhh, don't tell them, they are picky little things! And don't looks too closely at my hand's not pretty.

Fortunately my nieces are too you to know the difference. I think they will love these little gals. I free-handed these but you can buy a pattern here if you are so inclined.

Computer Spray Tan!

I am clearly not spending enough time in the 'What I Wore' pics needed a little quick creative editing...a little "built in"  but I had such a busy day today that I didn't have time to do much more! It's a computer spray tan! So here's the run down for today. (Look!! There are my new grey walls!! And my gallery wall is still gathering there on the floor!)

Color block silk top, oxford blue shorts, Steve Madden chevron heels and an amaze coral bead vintage necklace. These heels are not to be dealt with lightly...they are for sure at the top of my height limits! I did spend most of the day at home taking photos and updating the shop with new vintage jewels - running around barefoot but when I ventured out, it was in these...and my grocery store trip was not as quick as it would have been if I were in flip flops. Hells...ha ha ha Freudian slip there! HEELS are always worth the extra time ;)

Yesterday I was in much comfier shoes....Tory Burch flip flops and a Bar III jumpsuit. Bar III is one of my fave lines right now. Macy's carries a great selection - even our local so-so Macys! When I bought this I also scored a FAB pair of floral print shorts. I'll share those soon. Promise. If you are looking for something to wear...something to pump up the wardrobe you already have...hit the shop! Loads of vintage goodies were added today. Accessories make all the difference!

Mother's Day fun.

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mine was fantastic! Saturday night we had a great time entertaining friends and Sunday we all slept in and then celebrated Mother's day...all day! I was showered with gifts in the morning and breakfast made to order. Then the girls and I went out to lunch, had a fun little shopping spree at Sephora, hit our local cupcake shop and then came home to swim and sew. All while Brian was getting my oil changed and my car washed - he's a smart man! I made dresses for both of the girls last night...and the best gift of all is that Olivia actually wanted to wear hers to school today! I can't believe it!! She looked adorbs! It was a really simple dress to make...short in front, long in back, raw hem, from a cute knit print fabric. She added a silk leopard print belt-- the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!  I'll share pics tomorrow as I didn't get a chance to photo her on the way out (we are not morning peeps...and especially not on Mondays!)

These two are growing up so fast but I really love them at this age! We recently did a photo shoot with the crazy talented  Sara Achich in lieu of taking photos at the dance studio on a white background and overpaying for sub-par photos. Can you believe these two? They are amazing girls. Smart, funny and KIND! Kindness seems to be getting more and more rare in kids these days...which is sad because I think nastiness is taught!! Parenting is challenging, as is designing, and I am so glad I was able to make a dress that my fashionista 11 year old wanted to wear and that her 9 year old sis would have worn as well if she thought she could get away with going to school in a similar dress as her sis on the same day. I hope you all had a fantastic Mothers Day and are feeling as accomplished as I on this Monday morning.

Basic Style

Well hello there! I know. Absent here lately. My mom has been in town so I have been under a rock of paint :) What do I have to show for it? A newly painted family room and kitchen! Love it! I'll post pics when I get everything back up on the walls and the curtains hung. Green curtains ;)
day to night

Since I missed the What I wore Wednesday post, I thought I would polyvore it for you. Wednesday I spent the day at the flea market with my mom and a girl friend. We had a fantastic time and I picked up a few more vintage baubles for the shop. I wore a slouchy plain white tee, jeans, flip flops and a fedora since we were in Ventura and 100 yards from the shore there was a chilly breeze. When we got home it was 90 degrees so I quickly slipped on some shorts. And as the evening drew close I really started to think about how accessories can change a whole outfit (probably due to the super fancy sparkly vintage necklace I found at the flea market.) It's BEYOND!!  So sparkly and chic my mom said it lit up my face. Another one that will be hard to list but will for sure make it to the shop. ;)

If I were having dinner with friends that night, I could have kept the same print shorts on, same shirt, upgraded to some gold heels and a few sparkly bauble and chic clutch and been ready to go. I love that! Versatile staples that can go either direction. Kate Spade was right when she said accessories are essential. I believe they actually allow you to have fewer clothes in your closet. Just pick the right basics and add accessories to throw them which ever direction you like. What do you guys think of those dining chairs? Looking for new ones for our dining room and absolutely love both of those....thoughts? Maybe I'll find somewhere in LA to go try them out this's Mother's Day WEEKEND so it alllll miiiinnnne! What are your plans for Mothers Day? Today I'm treating my mom to a little shopping and a pedi.

Happy Stylish Friday.
Have a fabulous weekend!

Inquiring minds want to know.....

What's going on around here?? If you live in the area or follow my blog or facebook for that matter, you most likely know I have been unloading A LOT of decor and de-stashing the studio a bit. My non-garage sale sale went really well! Thank you to all my local ladies who came by! And those of you that missed it, shoot me an email and I can arrange for you to come on over. I got the feeling that quite a few of the gals who were here buying things reallllyyy wanted to know what was going on inside...I had a lot of questions about where I was going with decor now. So, I thought I would share a little peek of what is going on in the house....moving to a more sleek refined look, but still plenty casual for a summer full of entertaining and kids! We always have a house full!

My paint swatches are up - six of them, actually- grey is tough! But I believe I have found the perfect shade. Mom arrives tomorrow, paint brush in hard! She is the BEST!! Aren't all moms??

Since Mother's Day is next weekend I have decided to help you in your shopping....or your hubbys in theirs ;) all foldover clutches are 15% off thru Monday. Use promo code MAMANEEDSACLUTCH in the shop all weekend long. Happy shopping! And happy stylish Friday.
