Knit & Pearl.

Knit. I have been buried under a pile of knit fabric for the last few days and am absolutely LOVING sewing with my new medium. I did lots of research because I had never sewn a knit fabric before-- ummm...so easy!! I started with using a tear away stabilizer-- don't do that! Not worth it. Just make sure you have the appropriate needles and sew with a bit of tension on your fabric. Easy peasy!

My robe is shaping up amazingly...I cannot wait to show you all. I'll post photos tomorrow as I'll be finishing up today.

Pearl. Are you loving some of my latest flea market finds??

Seriously. Is there any need to buy "new" jewelry when there is so much amazing vintage to be had? Ok, so maybe I love the occasional jaunt to this place...but really. Nothing beats vintage. I'll be listing some of this in the shop..but only after I take it for a test drive at THE Event , which is just two short weeks away!

Happy knitting!

Winner Winner Ice Cream Dinner

We have a winner! random.org picked number 13. Mande!! Congrats girl. Let me know which ruffle hat you would like and I'll send it on it's way.

I did manage to find a few more of these ruffle brim hats (they will be in the shop later today)-- I absolutley love them. I have been in contact with the company to try to place a wholesale order but they are not very good at getting back to me so we'll see if I can make it happen or not-- certainly hope so! I'll also be listing a bunch of girls hats-- not sure which one is my fave-- I love them all! The girls are drooling over them and cannot pick just one either!

Today it will be above 100 degrees...again. I have been shacked up in the house or the studio whith drapes closed and a/c on all week. Feeling like a total shut in and not very inspired for fall. The weekend is supposed to be cooler-- which will be just perfect since I'll be camping at the beach with the girls-- I bet the high will be about 62 while were there. Tonight...ice cream for dinner. Because no one wants anything warm when it's 103 at 6pm!

Stay cool!

THE Event

That's what we are calling it, because it is...THE Event. The Creative Connection Event is a 3-day conference, crafting extravaganza and shopping mecca for creative women, women entrepreneurs and “mompreneurs”, created by Nancy Soriano and Jo Packham of Where Women Create. Heather Bailey, Amy Butler, Ree Drummond, MaryJane Butters, Heather Bullard will be there, loads and loads of fabulous talent, bloggers, fabric designers, magazine and book editors-- a wealth of knowledge and a barrel of fun. I cannot wait to hit the road. I'll be meeting my friend Ruth there. Ruth is fabric obsessed just like me! All it took was one email from her and we decided it was a MUST.

The event is less than 4 weeks away and I have decided that I will be wearing something handmade to each event.....So the outfit countdown starts now. There is a pajama party that we'll be attending so I think I am going to start with a robe. I found a really fun pattern here and am thinking I'll do a knit and woven combo. And since I have never sewn a knit in my life, it should be an interesting process. I just did a little research on sewing tips and got a few good pointers. I'll be sure to keep you posted on how well that works. Wish me luck. And head on over to register yourself for THE Event. I know you won't regret it! Ruth and I will see you there.

Gold Star.

Such a crazy few days-- It started last Wednesday when I took the two sasses to get hair cuts-- with my stylist. I figured it would be fun....the last day of summer vacation spent doing hair and nails, having lunch and just hanging out. And it was-- other than the fact that one little sass, who has asked to remain un-named, dropped my i-phone at the hair salon. The face shattered- I- mean-shattered. I was in complete disbelief...All I could say was "Oh. My!" She was very sorry and felt horrible. It was an accident, what can I say. So we head on over to the nail salon and then back home-- to find out hot tub was partially drained-- for no apparent reason. One more thing on the list.

Thursday the a/c would not turn off-- We figured maybe the thermostat needed replacing so my hunky handyman hubby did that and NOPE! A/C guy is on call!

Saturday morning we wake up to a freezer full of thawed food and warm orange juice. No I am not kidding! Fortunately we have a second fridge in the garage that sustained us until the repair man could come. At least that was a rather quick but not so cheap fix. Why is it that when it rains it pours?? I guess it could have been worse-- The 6'4" 300lb Russian fridge repair man that showed up at my door on Monday after I had already cancelled the appointment could have actually made me pay the $45 fee for showing up at my door. Now that was scary! Door bell rings and I answer with a bewildered look on my face. He says :"I am here to fix flidge"--yes, flidge. I kindly tell him there must have been some sort of mix up, I had called and cancelled the appointment when I found someone who was able to come the same day. His response "Fuck. you wait while I call office. You no cancel, you pay." I'm not kidding!! He swore!!!! At my front door! Um.... pardon me giant Russian man... I'm sorry but I cancelled the appointment. I literally closed the door on him because I thought he was going to block it with his foot and demand payment. I was shaking....seriously... I ran around the house closing all the sliding glass doors and tried to rouse the 350 pounds of dog laying around--they of course could not be bothered as I didn't have time to grab lunch meat from the fridge. Not three minutes later a mean Russian woman called me from General Appliance Repair and explained to me that she gets over 150 calls a day and I should have left my name address and phone number (which by the way i did.) because she can't keep track of all the calls-- my problem why?? After I explained that I did leave that info she wanted my credit card number to bill me for the service call. Yeah, that didn't happen. We'll see if a bill shows up in the mail. And through all this-- I somehow managed to keep my cool (other than when she hung up--choice words flew then!) But overall, I was good-- For that, I should get a gold star served on a silver platter (or vintage salad plate)!!

You should get one too. A GIANT vintage brooch gold star! It's in the shop. You could dress up as the sheriff and go find that nasty repair man....

Here's hoping for a better week from here on out!

Beautiful.

My beautiful SIL is visiting. She is not really my SIL..not yet anyway. But she will be-me thinks. At some point. I heart her and the girls heart her. She is the most kind and caring person I know. She is Not the accessories queen just yet so we are going to be heading out today to do a little shopping. I heart the way accessories can really change an outfit. A few days ago I had on some Rachel Pally wide leg pants and a white tank-- B-A-S-I-C. Comfy, nothing to behold, just comfy. I then layered on some long necklaces and a few bracelets and boom-- ready to hit the town in style. Jewelry finishes every outfit.

A studded skinny belt and chunky cuff bracelet dressed up my patchwork jeans and slouchy white tee yesterday. Again, another outfit that would be just another outfit with out the accessories. So Mandy and i are heading out around town today to start on her jewelry wardrobe....after we hit the club for a quick work out, steam room and light lunch.
I hope you are having a Fabulous Stylish Friday!

...because the shop is open! garden.house.home is waiting for you! I have more to list but am running out of time today. I intended to stay up last night and get them done but we went to the mummy exhibit yesterday and one little girls was a little freaked out when the sun set. I should have known better. Each time I thought she was in a dead sleep I tried to creep out of the bed and back down to the computer but s he woke up every time. I finally gave up and joined her -- I am her mummy after all! (so cheesy!) Anyway, I was up very early this morning trying to hustle and get them listed before a much needed hair appointment some got done, others didn't -- so is life! Things are already starting out the door and these are all one of a kind-- well at least they are one of a kind in my shop....Can't imagine I'll be stumbling on the same things over again at my favorite haunts.

Hope you are having a fab weekend!

Stylish Footprints

garden.house.home is one step closer to open. I laid the footprints for the shop yesterday. Most of the items have been photographed and I am planning on pulling another late night tonight to get them listed. After I sit for a spot of tea-- in my case that means 4 or 5 cups of coffee.

Or maybe a little juice in one of these. How much do you love these bird glasses?

I LOVE! You know me-- and vintage-- and bird. My love! They would be equally fab at the breakfast table filled with OJ, the dinner table filled with sangrai or as a centerpiece lined up down the middle of the table with flowers in them. So versatile! Take your pick...

1. Dalia, 2. Daliah Pinky Purple, 3. Zinnias in Hobnail Vase, 4. coming out, 5. love each day stone, 6. Daliah, 7. Just playing, 8. Daliah, 9.

Countdown to Distraction

The Rachel Zoe Project is one of my all time fave shows-- because you see, I think I should be her. I WAAAAANT her job! Unabridged access to everything fabulous?? Yes please! The new season of The Rachel Zoe Project started last night. I TiVo'd it and have been so distracted- counting down- all day by the thought of being able to sit and watch it tonight. I spent last night and a good part of today sewing for the girls-- back to school is just around the corner (another thing I am counting down!) This year I vow to send them to school with loads of handmade goodies. So far I have done snack bags, note-takers, skirts and a new little jackette. Miss A wanted something to wear with her faux leather skirt on the first day of school- yep, she's 7 and has a faux leather skirt. Her sister has one too. Brian was wondering who had more fun shopping for back to school when we came home with those. I could.not.resist. I have a few more sewing projects on the list before all the scholastic prep is complete. Pictures will come some time soon...maybe a Friday Style File for little ones? Another distraction today-- the new Tracy Porter catalog arrived in the post. I absolutely love her style. I'm obsessed with this top

She shows it styled in a rather bohemian fashion-- I'd love to Zoe it up a bit with some edgy shoes and either a fun cardi or a leather biker jacket (leather jackets are THE must have item this fall)

And since I was already so distracted I figured what's a little afternoon down time on polyvore-- And by little I don't really mean little.
